Boys lose a couple tough ones

The varsity boys lost a hard fought non-league Winterfest game to the Portola Tigers last night at home.

In the first quarter the Grizz won the tip and were keeping pace with the Tigers but after a series of unfortunate turnovers the Tigers took the lead and maintained it through the first quarter. Down six points entering the second quarter, the Grizz began to close the gap but the Tigers maintained their scoring pace and had an equal number of turnovers as the Grizz ended the half, 32-26 Tigers. After half the Grizz had some catching up to do, but point guard Tyler Davis went out of the game with an injury.  The Grizz, unfortunately, did not close the gap and their offensive pace slowed down allowing the Tigers to increase the lead. In the final quarter the Grizz came within 4 points close to the games end, but lost the momentum, for the loss, 55-42.

The varsity also lost to the Whittel Warriors in a hard fought game, 48-44, Dec. 14 at home.

The Grizz had no problems playing toe-to-toe with the Warriors. In the first quarter the Grizz and the Warriors played tight defense on each other, making each other work for their shots. Going into the second quarter the Grizz trailed the Warriors, but the Grizz gained control and entered half time ahead of the Warriors, 28-22. After half the Grizz stayed ahead but the Warriors narrowed the lead down to two points going into the fourth. The fourth quarter would be the deciding factor of the game. The Grizz could not hold on to their lead when the Warriors turned up their defense holding the Grizz to only six points, but fortunately the Grizz held the Warriors to eight points, making the game end in a tie, 40-40.  Going into overtime the Grizz seemed to lose their offensive momentum, and the Warriors outscored the Grizz by 4 ponts.

The JV boys lost their Winterfest game to the Portola Tigers last night at home. The first half the Grizz showed improvement on the offensive side of the ball, scoring more than previous games. However the Grizz were unable to prevent the Tigers to score on the majority of their drives, ending the half, 36-15. The second half of the game was not as good for the Grizz, as their offense’s pace slowed and the Tigers only staying consistent, scoring 25 points in the third quarter. With the Tigers’ creating a massive lead, the Grizz could only make a final effort to try and slow down the Tigers. In the final quarter the Grizz’s defense did manage to slow the Tigers down scoring wise, but the game end in a, 67-23 loss.

Varsity girls beat Portola in thriller

The varsity girls won their Winterfest game against the Portola Tigers.

The first quarter the Grizz came out strongly, but the Tigers had a small lead of 10-7. The second quarter the Grizz battled hard and took the lead going into halftime with a score of 19-17.

The third quarter the Grizz kept their small lead up, fighting off the Tigers with a score of 28-27. The fourth quarter the Grizz hustled to gain a 10-point lead with about a minute and a half left in the game despite the fact that Liz Lizarde went out of the game with an injury.

The Tigers made an impressive comeback attempt, but the Grizz held them off long enough to win the game, 40-36. The high scorer of the game was Kolbie Johnson with 18 points.

The varsity girls lost their home game against the Whittel Warriors Dec. 14.

The first quarter the Grizzlies battled against the Warriors with not much scoring from either of the two teams, 8-8 at the end of the quarter. The second quarter the Grizzlies came out playing hard and gained a lead ending the half at 23-16.

The third quarter the Grizzlies came out cold, and the Warriors took the lead with a score of 32-27. The fourth quarter the Grizz couldn’t get anything going for them and the game ended 49-33 with a loss for the Grizz. The high scorer of the game was Kolbie Johnson with 20 points.

The JV girls lost their homecoming game against the Portola Tigers.

The first quarter the Grizz had a hard time scoring and trailed the Tigers with a score of 8-4. The second quarter of the game, the Grizz was scoreless and went into half 16-4.

The third quarter the Grizz picked it up a little bit, but the Tigers just kept on adding to their lead, making the score 26-13. The fourth quarter the Grizz tried their hardest to come back but were unable to catch back up to the Tigers, ending the game 39-22. The high scorers of the game were Kennedy Hood with 8 points and Morgan Bowling and Jade Leddy with 6 points.

The JV girls won their home game against the Whittel Warriors on Dec. 14.

The Grizz came out strongly and got a small lead and didn’t allow the Warriors to score any points, with the quarter ending 6-0. The second quarter the Grizz kept up the pace, with the half coming to a close at 12-6. The third quarter the Grizz came out fired up and gained a big lead on the Warriors, and the third quarter ended 23-8. The Grizz slowed up their pace a little bit but still had a huge lead, with the game ending 28-12. The high scorers of the game were Morgan Bowling with 12 points and Kennedy Hood with 7 points.
